On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. instructed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation at Gueco Balibago Elementary School. This move is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to combat the threat of dengue, particularly in public spaces like schools where large groups of children gather. The fumigation aims to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, a critical step in preventing outbreaks of the disease.
In addition to fumigation, the city government is implementing the 4S strategy to tackle dengue effectively. The 4S strategy involves four key actions: “Search and Destroy” to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, “Self Protection Measures” to encourage personal protective actions like using repellents, “Seek Early Consultation” to promote early medical intervention, and “Say Yes to Fogging” if an outbreak occurs. This multifaceted approach is designed to curb the spread of dengue and protect the health of both students and staff.
The fumigation operation at Gueco Balibago Elementary is being closely supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who is ensuring that the procedure follows safety and effectiveness protocols. Also involved in the operation is Irish Bonus-Llego, the Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO). Together, they are overseeing the coordination and execution of the fumigation efforts.
Mayor Lazatin has underscored the importance of targeting schools for fumigation, as these locations are often high-risk areas for the spread of dengue. With children spending significant amounts of time together in classrooms and playgrounds, the city government is taking steps to minimize the potential for mosquito-borne diseases by making these spaces safer.
The fumigation at Gueco Balibago Elementary is just one part of the city’s broader campaign to address the growing concern of dengue. The local government plans to extend fumigation efforts to other public schools throughout Angeles City. This proactive measure aims to ensure that students remain in a healthy and safe learning environment free from the risks associated with dengue fever.
In addition to fumigation, the city continues to promote public awareness about the dangers of dengue and the importance of prevention. Mayor Lazatin encourages all residents to be proactive in eliminating mosquito breeding sites around their homes and to support city-led initiatives like the 4S strategy and fumigation operations.
The fumigation efforts will continue in other public schools over the coming weeks. With the support of the community, these efforts aim to significantly reduce the risk of dengue transmission and protect the well-being of all Angeles City residents.
