On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation efforts at Rafael Lazatin Memorial High School. This initiative is part of the city’s comprehensive efforts to combat dengue and ensure the health and safety of students and staff. Fumigation is an essential part of the city’s strategy to eliminate mosquito breeding sites in areas with a high concentration of people, such as schools.
The city government is also actively implementing the 4S strategy to prevent the spread of dengue in the area. This strategy involves four key actions: “Search and Destroy,” which focuses on finding and eliminating mosquito breeding sites; “Self Protection Measures,” where residents are encouraged to use mosquito repellents and take other precautions; “Seek Early Consultation,” to encourage people to consult healthcare professionals at the first signs of symptoms; and “Say Yes to Fogging” when an outbreak occurs. These actions work together to mitigate the risks of dengue in local communities, especially within school environments.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel is overseeing the fumigation operation at Rafael Lazatin Memorial High School, ensuring the process runs smoothly and effectively. Additionally, Irish Bonus-Llego, the Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), is assisting in coordinating the efforts and ensuring that the fumigation reaches all necessary areas of the school campus.
The mayor emphasized the importance of targeting schools for fumigation, given the high number of students in these facilities and the increased risk of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue. Schools such as Rafael Lazatin Memorial High School serve as crucial locations where large groups of students gather, making them a priority for the city’s dengue prevention measures.
In addition to the fumigation at Rafael Lazatin Memorial High School, the city government plans to extend similar operations to other public schools in the area. The ongoing fumigation activities aim to reduce the likelihood of dengue outbreaks in educational institutions, providing a safer learning environment for both students and staff.
As part of this initiative, the local government is continuing to raise awareness about dengue prevention. Mayor Lazatin has urged residents to take part in the city’s efforts by eliminating mosquito breeding grounds around their homes and supporting the 4S strategy. Public participation is essential in preventing the spread of the disease and protecting the community as a whole.
The fumigation activities will continue throughout other public schools in Angeles City over the coming weeks. With the cooperation of residents, local government officials, and community organizations, the city hopes to significantly reduce the risk of dengue and ensure the health and well-being of its students and residents.
