On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation efforts at San Ignacio Elementary School. This initiative is part of a larger campaign to prevent the spread of dengue in the community. Fumigation, a key component of the city’s strategy, targets areas with potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes to reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks in the area.
In addition to fumigation, the city government is implementing the 4S strategy against dengue. This includes “Search and Destroy,” where breeding sites are identified and eradicated, “Self Protection Measures,” encouraging residents to take precautions such as using mosquito repellent, “Seek Early Consultation,” advising individuals to consult doctors if symptoms arise, and “Say Yes to Fogging” in the event of an outbreak. The 4S approach is a comprehensive plan aimed at reducing the incidence of dengue in schools and surrounding communities.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel is overseeing the fumigation operation at San Ignacio Elementary School. She is collaborating with key city officials, including Irish Bonus-Llego, the Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), to ensure the smooth execution of the program. Both officials are ensuring that proper procedures are followed during the fumigation process to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Mayor Lazatin has emphasized the importance of these activities in keeping public spaces, especially schools, safe from the potential health risks posed by dengue-carrying mosquitoes. The city government’s proactive approach aims to reduce the number of cases by targeting schools, where large groups of children gather, making them potential hotspots for dengue transmission.
The fumigation efforts are part of a broader initiative to protect the health and well-being of the city’s residents. In addition to San Ignacio Elementary School, the city government plans to expand fumigation activities to other public schools within Angeles City. The goal is to ensure that no school becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.
These efforts are also aligned with the city’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness about dengue prevention. Mayor Lazatin encourages all residents to remain vigilant, practice good hygiene, and support city-led initiatives like fumigation to combat the spread of the disease. By working together, the community can help ensure a dengue-free environment for everyone.
As part of the city’s commitment to public health, further fumigation operations will be scheduled in the coming weeks. With continued cooperation from city departments, barangays, and residents, Angeles City aims to minimize the risk of dengue outbreaks and protect its schools and neighborhoods from the disease.
