On February 8, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., initiated a fumigation operation at Sta. Maria Elementary School to combat the spread of dengue. This action is part of the city’s proactive approach to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and reduce the risks of a potential outbreak. The fumigation is expected to significantly reduce the presence of mosquitoes around the school and safeguard the health of students and staff.
The fumigation is being carried out as part of the city’s comprehensive 4S strategy, which aims to address the ongoing threat of dengue. The 4S strategy includes “Search and Destroy,” focusing on identifying and removing mosquito breeding grounds; “Self Protection Measures,” encouraging individuals to use mosquito repellents and wear protective clothing; “Seek Early Consultation,” urging people to consult a healthcare provider at the first sign of symptoms; and “Say Yes to Fogging,” which ensures that fogging is performed during outbreaks to control the spread of the disease.
The operation at Sta. Maria Elementary School is being supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who is overseeing the proper execution of the fumigation. Joining her in the effort is Irish Bonus-Llego, Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), who is ensuring that the fumigation reaches all necessary areas of the school grounds.
Mayor Lazatin stressed that schools are crucial areas for dengue prevention, as they host large groups of children, making them particularly vulnerable to mosquito-borne illnesses. By focusing efforts on schools like Sta. Maria Elementary, the city government aims to reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks within these institutions and create a safer, healthier environment for students and teachers.
This fumigation effort at Sta. Maria Elementary is just one of many initiatives planned by the city government. In the coming weeks, the city will extend fumigation activities to other public schools to further combat dengue and protect the students and staff in these educational institutions.
In addition to fumigation, the local government is encouraging residents to play an active role in dengue prevention. Mayor Lazatin has urged the community to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites around their homes and participate in the 4S strategy. Public cooperation is key in preventing the spread of dengue throughout the city.
Fumigation activities will continue at other public schools in Angeles City as part of the government’s broader efforts to combat mosquito-borne diseases. Through these measures, the city remains committed to ensuring that all schools provide a safe and healthy learning environment for the Angeleño community.
