On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach to conduct fumigation at Marisol Bliss Elementary School. This operation is part of the city’s proactive approach to combat dengue and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds in public spaces. Fumigation, a critical measure, aims to prevent the spread of dengue by targeting areas that could be conducive to mosquito breeding.
Alongside fumigation, the city government is employing the 4S strategy as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce the risk of dengue. The strategy focuses on “Search and Destroy,” where potential mosquito breeding sites are located and eradicated; “Self Protection Measures,” which encourage the use of mosquito repellent and proper hygiene; “Seek Early Consultation,” which promotes early medical consultation for anyone showing symptoms of dengue; and “Say Yes to Fogging” in case of an outbreak. This comprehensive approach is designed to minimize the spread of the virus in schools and surrounding communities.
The fumigation operation at Marisol Bliss Elementary School is being closely supervised by Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who is overseeing the activities to ensure the process runs smoothly. Also involved in the effort is Irish Bonus-Llego, the Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), who is assisting with the coordination and implementation of the operation.
Mayor Lazatin highlighted the importance of fumigation activities in schools, particularly with the potential for dengue outbreaks during the rainy season. Schools, with large groups of students, are considered high-risk areas for the spread of the disease. By targeting these locations, the city government hopes to reduce the likelihood of an outbreak and protect students, staff, and the wider community.
In addition to the fumigation at Marisol Bliss Elementary School, the city government is planning to extend similar operations to other public schools within Angeles City. The goal is to ensure a safer environment for students and prevent any further risk of dengue transmission in educational institutions across the city.
As part of this initiative, the local government continues to promote dengue awareness and prevention. Mayor Lazatin encourages everyone in the community to support these efforts by staying vigilant, eliminating mosquito breeding sites around their homes, and participating in city-led activities. With a collective effort, the city hopes to significantly reduce the number of dengue cases in the region.
The city’s ongoing fumigation efforts are expected to continue in the coming weeks. These actions, combined with the 4S strategy, aim to protect public health and ensure that public schools remain safe environments for learning and growth.
