On February 1, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. ordered the Angeles City Traffic Development Office, under the leadership of Kiko Pangilinan, to initiate a disinfection effort at Bonifacio V. Romero Senior High School. This measure is aimed at preventing the spread of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD), following the report of suspected cases in local schools. The disinfection operation was supervised by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel to ensure its successful implementation.
The disinfection at Bonifacio V. Romero Senior High School is a key part of the city’s intensified efforts to control and prevent the transmission of HFMD, a viral disease that primarily affects children and can spread quickly in school environments. By taking these steps, the local government seeks to maintain a safe learning atmosphere and protect the health of both students and faculty members.
Dr. Verona Guevarra, the City Health Officer, clarified that the disinfection operation used Anolyte, an advanced disinfectant that is safe, effective, and environmentally friendly. This solution provides thorough sanitation without posing health risks to students or staff, making it a suitable option for widespread disinfection in public spaces such as schools.
The initiative at Bonifacio V. Romero Senior High is just the beginning, as the city government plans to extend this disinfection campaign to other public and private elementary schools within the city. The goal is to curb any potential outbreaks of HFMD and reduce the risk of it spreading to a wider population of students in different school settings.
Mayor Lazatin’s decision to take swift action has been welcomed by school officials, parents, and the community, who are grateful for the city’s proactive approach in safeguarding public health. The disinfection efforts at the school are seen as an important step in preventing further outbreaks and ensuring that students can continue their education in a clean and safe environment.
The city’s commitment to maintaining a healthy and secure learning environment for its students is a reflection of the leadership of Mayor Lazatin and his administration. The disinfection efforts are part of a broader public health initiative to address and prevent communicable diseases in schools and other public spaces across the city.
Moving forward, the Angeles City government will continue to monitor the situation closely and implement additional measures as necessary. Mayor Lazatin’s administration remains focused on the well-being of the community, ensuring that the city remains a safe place for residents, especially students, amid health concerns like HFMD.
