On January 25, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team, led by Michael Lising, to carry out disinfection activities at Lourdes Northwest Elementary School as part of a proactive effort to curb the spread of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD). The disinfection measures are part of the city’s response to the growing concerns over suspected HFMD cases reported in local schools.
The disinfection process was supervised by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, ensuring that the operation was carried out efficiently and effectively. This initiative is aimed at preventing the further spread of HFMD, a contagious viral illness that can affect young children and staff in schools.
City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra explained that the disinfection efforts are utilizing Anolyte, an advanced and eco-friendly disinfectant solution. Anolyte is both safe and effective, providing a thorough sanitation process that reduces health risks for students and school staff. The solution is part of the city’s commitment to creating a healthier and safer environment in educational institutions.
The disinfection activities at Lourdes Northwest Elementary School are part of the city’s expanded efforts to combat HFMD in schools across Angeles City. Mayor Lazatin’s administration is taking all necessary precautions to prevent outbreaks, with a focus on protecting students and school personnel. The initiative highlights the city’s dedication to public health and safety.
Following the disinfection at Lourdes Northwest, the city plans to conduct similar activities in other public and private elementary schools across Angeles City. The city’s goal is to ensure that all educational institutions are properly sanitized, minimizing the risks of spreading infectious diseases like HFMD.
In addition to the disinfection efforts, the city is also implementing preventive measures to educate the public about HFMD, its symptoms, and how to reduce the risk of transmission. The local government encourages everyone to remain vigilant and follow health protocols to protect vulnerable groups, particularly children.
Mayor Lazatin’s swift action demonstrates his commitment to safeguarding the well-being of the city’s youth. As the disinfection activities continue in other schools, the Angeles City Government is determined to minimize the spread of HFMD and create a safer environment for students and the entire community.
