The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., commenced the distribution of P1,000 in cash assistance and five kilos of rice to registered solo parents in Barangay Sapalibutad on January 28, 2025. This initiative is part of a citywide program that aims to provide aid to the 2,500 registered solo parents across 33 barangays in Angeles City.
The distribution of the financial assistance and rice was spearheaded by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), headed by Francis De Guzman. The house-to-house delivery ensures that the aid reaches the intended recipients, making the process more convenient for solo parents who may face difficulties traveling to distribution centers.
De Guzman expressed that the beneficiaries, all of whom are registered with the city’s solo parents affairs office, were deeply appreciative of the assistance. “Solo parents are very grateful because Mayor Lazatin has not forgotten them and continues to provide support,” De Guzman said. The distribution is part of the city government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that solo parents receive the help and recognition they deserve.
Since Mayor Lazatin took office in 2019, the CSWDO has been actively issuing IDs to registered solo parents. This ID system allows solo parents to easily access various government services and benefits, streamlining the process for receiving assistance and making them eligible for other programs in the city. De Guzman emphasized that this initiative has helped empower solo parents and improve their access to needed resources.
In addition to the cash and rice assistance, the city’s livelihood programs also benefit solo parents, especially through the Angeleño First Facemask livelihood project. This initiative provides solo parents with opportunities to earn a living by producing facemasks, a project that has gained traction since the pandemic. The livelihood programs further support solo parents in achieving financial independence and improving their quality of life.
The distribution of aid in Barangay Sapalibutad is just the beginning, with similar efforts planned for other barangays across the city. Mayor Lazatin’s administration has consistently prioritized social welfare programs, especially for vulnerable sectors such as solo parents, ensuring that they have the support they need to thrive.
As the program continues, the city government remains committed to expanding and improving services for solo parents. Mayor Lazatin expressed his desire to continue providing both financial assistance and livelihood opportunities, ensuring that all Angeleños, especially solo parents, have the resources and support to succeed.
