The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began the distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to 20 bedridden senior citizens and two individuals aged 90-99 years old in Barangay Cutcut on February 27, 2025. The initiative aims to prioritize the welfare of the elderly, particularly those who are bedridden or in their advanced years, in recognition of their continued contributions to society.
During the distribution event, Mayor Lazatin was accompanied by members of the Barangay Cutcut Council, headed by Captain Robin Nepomuceno. This effort is part of a larger initiative, which will eventually see around 664 bedridden senior citizens and 612 seniors aged 90-99 years old from the 33 barangays across the city receiving financial aid and Vitamin C supplements to support their health and well-being.
In addition to the cash aid and supplements, beneficiaries will also have access to free medical check-ups and laboratory tests, services provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. These efforts are designed to address the various health needs of the elderly, ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the city’s commitment to continuously prioritizing the needs of the elderly, particularly those in vulnerable situations. He remarked that providing these forms of assistance is part of the city’s ongoing effort to ensure the elderly population feels supported and cared for in their later years.
The initiative, which includes both financial aid and health support, was spearheaded by members of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), led by Eduardo Torres. The program’s objective is to provide elderly residents with the assistance they need to lead healthier lives and remain connected with their communities.
Eduardo Torres shared that the house-to-house distribution of aid has been an ongoing program since Mayor Lazatin assumed office in 2019. The effort to provide direct assistance to registered senior citizens, including the distribution of cash and essential health supplements like Vitamin C, marks a significant shift in how the local government supports the elderly population.
Through this initiative, the Angeles City Government has highlighted the importance of caring for the aging population, particularly those who face the challenges of being bedridden or in their advanced years. Mayor Lazatin’s leadership has been pivotal in ensuring that the welfare of senior citizens remains a priority, demonstrating the city’s commitment to their well-being.
