In a significant move to prioritize animal welfare, the Angeles City Government, through the City Veterinary Office, launched a free anti-rabies vaccination drive for dogs and cats on February 25, 2025, in Barangay Mining. This initiative aims to safeguard public health by reducing the spread of rabies, a deadly disease that can affect both animals and humans.
Dr. Christian Xyric Arcilla, head of the City Veterinary Office, led the vaccination event, marking the first of many scheduled sessions across the city’s 33 barangays. The city has rolled out a comprehensive vaccination calendar to ensure that all pet owners have access to this crucial service, emphasizing the importance of preventing the spread of rabies in the community.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, a known animal lover, spoke about the significance of the program. She highlighted that the free anti-rabies vaccination initiative has been an ongoing program since Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. took office. Under the supervision of Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, the city government has been dedicated to promoting animal welfare and responsible pet ownership through such programs.
Mayor Lazatin, in his message during the event, urged pet owners to take advantage of the free vaccinations for their dogs and cats. “Nanawagan po ako sa lahat ng mga pet owners na pabakunahan ang kanilang mga alagang hayop sa gagawing Bakuna sa Barangay para sa mga alagang aso at pusa,” the Mayor said, encouraging residents to participate and ensure the health and safety of their pets.
The initiative aligns with the city’s long-standing goal of fostering responsible pet ownership in Angeleño households. By offering free services like rabies vaccination, the local government aims to reduce the number of stray animals and prevent potential health risks related to rabies. The city hopes that this initiative will also encourage more pet owners to seek regular veterinary care for their animals.
The free anti-rabies vaccination program not only protects animals but also safeguards the community as a whole, particularly children and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to rabies transmission. It reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of both pets and people.
As the vaccination drive continues across the city’s barangays, the Angeles City Government is hopeful that the program will have a lasting impact, helping to reduce the number of rabies cases and promoting a safer and more responsible environment for both pet owners and their beloved animals.
