In observance of Women’s Month, the Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., launched a free medical campaign on March 6, 2025, offering pap smears, breast examinations, and HIV testing for indigent Angeleñas. The event, which was held at Rural Health Unit I, targeted women from Barangays Sto. Rosario, Sto. Domingo, Lourdes Sur, San Nicolas, San Jose, and Pulungbulu.
This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to provide accessible healthcare services for women, particularly those in need. The Gender and Development Office, led by Mina Cabiles, and the City Health Office, headed by Dr. Verona Guevarra, played key roles in organizing and implementing the program.
Mayor Lazatin expressed his dedication to ensuring that healthcare services are delivered directly to the residents, saying, “Patuloy ang pangako ko sa inyo na ang serbisyong medikal sa ilalim ng aking administrasyon ay literal na dadalhin ko sa inyong mga pintuan” (I continue to promise that medical services under my administration will literally be brought to your doorsteps). His administration has long prioritized women’s health, and this event is part of a broader effort to promote well-being in the community.
The free medical services offered are crucial in detecting early signs of diseases such as cervical cancer and breast cancer, conditions that many women may otherwise overlook or struggle to afford screening for. The pap smear test, in particular, is essential in detecting cervical cancer, which is preventable when diagnosed early.
The city government aims to cater to 600 women across the 33 barangays throughout the campaign, with the goal of providing vital health services to as many women as possible in the city. This program is a continuation of the Lazatin administration’s focus on enhancing public health services, especially for marginalized sectors of the population.
This is not the first time the Lazatin administration has provided such health services to indigent women. Since taking office, Mayor Lazatin has consistently prioritized women’s health through various free programs and medical initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Angeleñas.
Through these efforts, the Angeles City Government is not only promoting health awareness but also empowering women by giving them the tools to take control of their well-being. The ongoing campaign reflects the city’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to all of its residents.
