On February 8, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. took proactive steps to prevent the spread of dengue by instructing the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to conduct fumigation at Jose P. Dizon Elementary School. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to control the dengue virus and protect the health of the community, especially school children.
The fumigation at the school is part of the city’s implementation of the 4S strategy, which includes Search and Destroy, Self-Protection Measures, Seek Early Consultation, and Say Yes to Fogging in case of an outbreak. This multifaceted approach aims to reduce the number of dengue cases by eliminating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and increasing public awareness.
Reina Manuel, Executive Assistant IV, was on-site to supervise the fumigation efforts, ensuring the operation was carried out efficiently. She worked alongside Irish Bonus-Llego, Chief of the Angeles City Economic Development Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO), to ensure the coordination of the efforts.
The fumigation was conducted carefully, with teams targeting areas within the school that could potentially harbor mosquito larvae. By focusing on these high-risk areas, the city government hopes to prevent the spread of dengue in the school, especially during the peak transmission season.
This initiative is not limited to Jose P. Dizon Elementary School alone. The city government has also announced that fumigation activities will be extended to other public schools in Angeles City. The move is a part of the broader public health strategy to address the increasing concerns over mosquito-borne diseases in urban areas.
In addition to fumigation, the city has been promoting the importance of the 4S strategy within the local community. Citizens are encouraged to take part in dengue prevention measures by regularly checking their surroundings for stagnant water, wearing protective clothing, and seeking medical attention if symptoms appear.
Mayor Lazatin’s efforts, along with the support of local officials and community leaders, demonstrate the city’s commitment to safeguarding public health and preventing outbreaks. The ongoing fumigation activities and education campaigns are crucial in ensuring the well-being of students, educators, and the wider community.
