ANGELES CITY – In a bid to prevent the spread of dengue, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed members of the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to conduct fumigation at Mining Elementary School on February 14, 2025. This initiative is part of the city’s broader efforts to combat the rising threat of dengue and ensure the safety of students and staff.
The fumigation activity is one of the key measures being implemented by the city government under the 4S strategy. The 4S approach stands for “Search and Destroy” breeding sites, “Self Protection Measures,” “Seek Early Consultation,” and “Say Yes to Fogging” in the event of an outbreak. This strategy is designed to reduce the number of mosquito breeding sites and ensure timely intervention to protect the community from dengue.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, who is supervising the operation, emphasized the importance of these fumigation efforts in curbing the spread of dengue. She is working alongside Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (ACEDIPO) Chief Irish Bonus-Llego to ensure the proper execution of the program. Both officials are leading the effort to safeguard public health, especially in educational institutions.
Mayor Lazatin expressed his commitment to ensuring that all schools and public spaces in the city are thoroughly protected against dengue. “We will continue to prioritize health and safety measures, especially in areas frequented by our children,” he said. The fumigation at Mining Elementary School is just the beginning of a citywide initiative to prevent outbreaks and protect residents from the disease.
In addition to fumigation, the city government has been conducting extensive campaigns to raise awareness about self-protection measures. This includes encouraging residents to use mosquito repellents, wear protective clothing, and eliminate standing water around their homes, all critical steps in preventing mosquito-borne diseases.
Following the fumigation at Mining Elementary, similar activities will be conducted in other public schools across the city. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that all students and faculty members are provided with a safe environment, free from the risks associated with dengue fever.
The city government’s proactive approach to dengue prevention, under the leadership of Mayor Lazatin, highlights the administration’s dedication to maintaining a healthy and secure community. With the continued implementation of the 4S strategy, the city hopes to significantly reduce the incidence of dengue and protect its residents from the dangers of the disease.
