Angeleños now have the opportunity to exchange their collected plastic waste for rice through the “Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas” project at the City Hall Compound. The initiative, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., aims to encourage proper waste segregation and reduce plastic waste in the city, while providing a valuable benefit to local residents.
Mayor Lazatin directed Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Officer-in-Charge Irish Bonus-Llego to establish a redemption booth at the City Hall Compound, making it easier for residents to participate in this environmentally friendly program. The booth is open every Monday to Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM, offering an accessible way for Angeleños to trade their recyclable plastics for rice.
To participate in the program, residents simply need to bring a valid ID to verify that they are Angeleño citizens. This initiative is not only a way to reduce plastic waste but also helps support families with essential food provisions, making it a win-win for both the environment and the community.
The “Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas” project is designed to promote waste segregation at the household level, encouraging residents to separate plastics from other waste. By doing so, the city hopes to reduce plastic pollution and foster more sustainable practices within households. This initiative also encourages the recycling of plastics, turning waste into a useful resource.
Chief Adviser IC Calaguas emphasized the city’s commitment to collecting recyclable plastics from local households in exchange for rice. Under this program, every kilo of recyclable plastics will be exchanged for one kilo of rice, providing a straightforward and beneficial incentive for residents to take part in waste segregation.
Through this project, the Angeles City Government aims to achieve long-term environmental sustainability while simultaneously assisting its residents with basic needs. The rice exchange serves as an effective way to tackle plastic waste while supporting local families in a meaningful way.
The city’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and waste management is evident in this innovative project. As the program gains traction, it is expected to inspire other regions to implement similar initiatives, showing how recycling can be both environmentally responsible and community-oriented.
