Angeleños now have an easier way to exchange their recyclable plastic waste for rice, thanks to the opening of the Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project redemption booth at the City Hall Compound. The initiative, aimed at promoting waste segregation and reducing plastic use, is now more accessible to residents, with the redemption booth providing a convenient location for plastic-to-rice exchanges.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Officer-in-Charge, Irish Bonus-Llego, to set up the booth at the City Hall Compound. This move brings the Walang Plastikan program closer to the people, making it more accessible for those who wish to participate in the initiative. The redemption booth will be open every Monday to Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Residents interested in participating in the program must bring a valid ID to prove their residency in Angeles City. The process is simple: for every kilo of recyclable plastics collected, participants will receive one kilo of rice. This exchange aims to encourage more Angeleños to actively engage in waste segregation at home while also providing an essential food resource for local families.
The Walang Plastikan project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and reduce plastic waste. Through the collection and recycling of plastics, the program helps alleviate the growing issue of plastic pollution while providing tangible benefits to the community.
Lazatin’s Chief Adviser, IC Calaguas, emphasized that this initiative supports both the environment and the people of Angeles City. By offering rice in exchange for recyclable plastics, the city government incentivizes residents to reduce plastic waste while receiving essential resources for their households.
The project is part of a broader effort to educate and encourage Angeleño households to practice waste segregation from their homes. By actively participating in the program, residents contribute to the reduction of plastic pollution and the promotion of a cleaner, more sustainable city.
In conclusion, the opening of the redemption booth for the Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project at the City Hall Compound provides a convenient and accessible way for Angeleños to take part in this valuable initiative. Mayor Lazatin’s leadership continues to prioritize the welfare of the city’s residents while also addressing environmental concerns, creating a cleaner and more sustainable future for all.
