On November 20, 2024, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. awarded certificates of recognition and cash incentives to four Angeleño kickboxers who recently triumphed in the National Kickboxing Championship held in Tagaytay City. The athletes were celebrated for their exceptional performances, which brought honor to the city in various categories.
Among the awardees, Russel Canilao and Monsod Cadalso received silver medals for their outstanding efforts in the Kick Light Senior and Point Fighting Senior categories, respectively. Their achievements reflect the dedication and skill required to compete at the national level, and the mayor expressed his pride in their hard work and determination.
In addition to Canilao and Cadalso, two other athletes, Mohamar Sobair and Eugene Narawi, were also recognized for their achievements. Sobair earned a bronze medal in the Kick Light Senior category, while Narawi secured a bronze in the Point Fighting Older Cadets category. Their success added to the city’s strong presence in the national kickboxing scene.
Mayor Lazatin, during the ceremony, praised the athletes not only for their achievements but also for their representation of the city in such a competitive sport. He noted that their victories serve as an inspiration to other young people in Angeles City, encouraging them to pursue excellence in their chosen fields.
The athletes were accompanied by Coach Vic Policarpio, head of the Pampanga-Angeles Martial Arts Brotherhood, who played a crucial role in preparing the athletes for the competition. Policarpio’s guidance and training were instrumental in helping the team reach the podium at the prestigious event.
The awards ceremony, which took place at the Angeles City Hall, highlighted the city’s continued support for local athletes and their endeavors.
