On February 26, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. provided ₱5,000 in financial assistance to local student Alden James Valerio, who is set to represent the city at the Southeast Asia Computer Science Olympiad (SEACSO) in South Korea. This support is intended to assist Valerio as he travels to Incheon for the final round of the prestigious competition.
Alden James Valerio, a bright young talent from Angeles City, earned his spot in the international stage after securing a silver award in the national qualifiers of SEACSO. His achievement reflects his strong skills in computer science, making him one of the promising participants at the regional level.
The SEACSO is a highly competitive event that gathers the brightest minds in computer science from across Southeast Asia. Valerio’s qualification for the final round is a significant milestone, as only a select few from the region are chosen to advance to this stage of the competition. His journey to South Korea will allow him to showcase his abilities and gain valuable experience in the field.
In a ceremony held at Angeles City Hall, Mayor Lazatin personally handed over the ₱5,000 financial support to Valerio. The Mayor expressed his pride in Valerio’s accomplishment, emphasizing how his achievement not only brings honor to the city but also sets an example for other young students to excel in academic and intellectual pursuits.
Also present at the ceremony was Cherie Lyn Valerio, Alden’s supportive family member. Cherie Lyn has been a constant source of encouragement for Alden, and she shared her pride in her relative’s journey toward representing both their family and Angeles City on the international stage.
The financial assistance from the city government is part of a broader effort to support local students who aim to participate in global competitions, particularly those in fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Mayor Lazatin has consistently shown commitment to nurturing the talents of young people in Angeles City, ensuring they have the resources they need to succeed.
As Alden James Valerio prepares for the SEACSO final in South Korea, he has expressed his gratitude for the support he has received from the local government and his family.
