The Angeles City Government, through the City Veterinary Office, kicked off its free anti-rabies vaccination campaign for dogs and cats on February 10, 2025, in Barangays Sto. Rosario and San Nicolas. This initiative, which is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare, aims to protect both pets and the community from the dangers of rabies.
Dr. Christian Xyric Arcilla, head of the City Veterinary Office, has mapped out a vaccination schedule that will cover all 33 barangays in Angeles City. The campaign is designed to ensure that as many pets as possible are vaccinated, reducing the risk of rabies transmission in the community. The program is part of the city’s broader efforts to maintain public health and promote responsible pet ownership.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, an animal enthusiast, expressed her support for the program. She highlighted that this initiative is a priority for the current administration, spearheaded by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. Manuel emphasized that it was under Mayor Lazatin’s leadership that the program was formalized, with oversight from Chief Adviser IC Calaguas.
The mayor, a strong advocate for responsible pet ownership, has consistently championed this program since taking office. “I call on all pet owners to have their pets vaccinated during the Barangay vaccination activities for dogs and cats,” Mayor Lazatin said, stressing the importance of the initiative in safeguarding pets and humans alike from rabies.
The free vaccination program not only aims to protect animals but also helps foster a sense of responsibility among pet owners in the city. By offering this service at no cost to residents, the city government encourages pet owners to ensure the health and safety of their animals and the broader community.
Residents of Barangays Sto. Rosario and San Nicolas were the first to benefit from the program, with the City Veterinary Office providing vaccinations for local dogs and cats. In the coming weeks, the vaccination campaign will continue as scheduled, with more barangays set to participate.
Through this initiative, the city government hopes to make a significant impact in controlling rabies and promoting animal health in Angeles City. With the leadership of Mayor Lazatin and the support of dedicated city officials, the program is expected to reach all corners of the city, ensuring that every pet is given the protection they deserve.
