On January 21, 2025, the Angeles City Government, through the City Veterinary Office, conducted a free anti-rabies vaccination drive for dogs and cats in Barangay San Jose. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to animal welfare, ensuring the health and safety of both pets and residents.
Dr. Christian Xyric Arcilla, head of the City Veterinary Office, led the vaccination event, which is part of a scheduled calendar of vaccinations that will be held across the city’s 33 barangays. The program aims to protect pets from the dangers of rabies while also promoting public health by preventing the spread of the disease.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, a passionate animal advocate, expressed her support for the program. She noted that the initiative has been in place since Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. took office, with supervision by Chief Adviser IC Calaguas. “This program reflects our city’s commitment to animal welfare and the well-being of our community,” Manuel said.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated the importance of responsible pet ownership, urging pet owners to take advantage of the free vaccination services being offered by the city. “I call on all pet owners to have their pets vaccinated during the Barangay vaccination events to help protect them and the people around them,” the Mayor said.
The city government has consistently prioritized initiatives that promote responsible pet care and ensure that animals are well-cared for. Through free programs like the anti-rabies vaccination drive, the administration hopes to foster a safer, healthier environment for both pets and their owners.
Rabies is a preventable disease, but it remains a significant public health concern, especially in areas with high populations of stray animals. By providing free vaccinations, the city aims to reduce the risks associated with rabies and other animal-borne diseases.
The vaccination drive is part of the city’s broader efforts to ensure the welfare of animals and educate the public on the importance of proper pet care. With the continued support of the City Veterinary Office and the participation of local barangays, Angeles City remains committed to maintaining a safe and responsible pet-owning community.
