In a bid to prioritize animal welfare, the Angeles City Government, through its City Veterinary Office, launched a free anti-rabies vaccination drive for dogs and cats on March 3, 2025, in Barangay Capaya. This program aims to safeguard both the animals and the community from the dangers of rabies, a deadly disease that can be transmitted through animal bites.
Dr. Christian Xyric Arcilla, the head of the City Veterinary Office, oversees the schedule for the vaccination campaign, which will cover all 33 barangays in Angeles City. The initiative is part of the local government’s continuous efforts to promote public health and ensure the safety of both residents and their pets.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, an animal lover, highlighted the importance of the program, noting that it aligns with the city’s commitment to improving animal welfare. This free vaccination service has been a key part of the city’s health and safety efforts since Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. assumed office. The program is supervised by the mayor’s Chief Adviser, IC Calaguas.
According to Mayor Lazatin, the initiative aims to encourage responsible pet ownership among Angeleño households. By offering free vaccinations, the city hopes to ensure that pet owners take proactive steps in protecting their animals and preventing the spread of rabies. He emphasized that the program is an essential part of fostering a safer environment for both animals and people.
“Nanawagan po ako sa lahat ng mga pet owners na pabakunahan ang kanilang mga alagang hayop sa gagawing Bakuna sa Barangay para sa mga alagang aso at pusa,” said Mayor Lazatin, urging pet owners to take part in the vaccination drive. His call for participation is aimed at ensuring the success of the program and protecting public health.
The city’s efforts to provide free vaccinations come as part of a broader strategy to address animal welfare concerns and public health. The vaccination campaign is expected to prevent potential outbreaks of rabies, which can be fatal to both animals and humans. The city encourages all pet owners to take advantage of the service and help curb the spread of this deadly disease.
Through this initiative, the Angeles City Government is not only protecting animals but also promoting a more responsible and informed community of pet owners. The free anti-rabies vaccination program is just one of many measures being taken to improve animal welfare and ensure the health and safety of the city’s residents.
