The Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., kicked off its free pap smear, breast examination, and HIV testing campaign on March 6, 2025, for indigent Angeleñas from Barangays Balibago, Margot, Sapangbato, and Amsic. The event, which took place at Rural Health Unit IV, is part of the city’s ongoing programs for the Women’s Month celebration.
The initiative aims to provide essential healthcare services to women in need, with the support of the Gender and Development Office led by Mina Cabiles and the City Health Office headed by Dr. Verona Guevarra. Both offices were instrumental in organizing the event, ensuring that women have access to these important health screenings.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized his commitment to bringing healthcare services directly to the people, stating, “Patuloy ang pangako ko sa inyo na ang serbisyong medikal sa ilalim ng aking administrasyon ay literal na dadalhin ko sa inyong mga pintuan” (I continue to promise that medical services under my administration will literally be brought to your doorsteps). This campaign is part of his ongoing efforts to address the health needs of the city’s underserved women.
The free medical services, including pap smears and breast exams, are crucial for early detection of cervical and breast cancer, two of the most common health threats to women. The pap smear, a screening test for cervical cancer, is especially important for early intervention and prevention, which can save lives.
The city government plans to reach a total of 600 women across the 33 barangays throughout the campaign, offering much-needed health services to those who may otherwise be unable to afford them. This is not the first time the Lazatin administration has provided such services; since Mayor Lazatin took office, he has consistently focused on improving women’s health and making essential medical screenings more accessible.
Through this initiative, the city government continues to support the health and well-being of women, ensuring that they have the tools and resources to protect their health. The ongoing campaign reflects the city’s dedication to providing comprehensive healthcare services and empowering women to take control of their health.
