On January 9, 2025, a resident from Barangay Mining adopted a rescued dog from the Angeles City Dog Pound and Animal Shelter. This adoption is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to promote responsible pet ownership through the “Adopt Don’t Shop” initiative, which encourages residents to give rescued animals a second chance at life.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has been a strong advocate for animal welfare and has urged Angeleños to consider adopting rescued dogs and cats from the City Veterinary Office. Through this campaign, the city aims to address the issue of stray animals while promoting kindness and compassion towards animals in need of loving homes.
The dog adopted by the Barangay Mining resident had undergone spaying at the Angeles City Dog Pound and Animal Shelter before the adoption, ensuring that it would not contribute to the growing population of stray animals in the city. The city continues to offer various services to help manage pet populations, including free spaying, neutering, and anti-rabies vaccinations.
Mayor Lazatin reiterated that these programs are part of the city’s long-term commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership. By providing these services for free, the city hopes to reduce the number of stray animals and prevent overpopulation while ensuring that pets are well cared for and healthy.
The “Adopt Don’t Shop” campaign is gaining momentum in the city, with more residents encouraged to adopt rather than buy from pet stores. Through these efforts, the city hopes to foster a culture of compassion and responsibility among Angeleño households when it comes to pet care.
The adoption of rescued animals also benefits the community by reducing the number of stray animals on the streets, which can contribute to health and safety concerns. By adopting from the shelter, residents play an active role in reducing the stray population and supporting the shelter’s efforts to find homes for other animals in need.
As the program continues to grow, Mayor Lazatin is hopeful that more Angeleños will open their hearts and homes to rescued animals. The city’s focus on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare ensures a brighter future for both pets and residents, fostering a stronger sense of community and compassion throughout Angeles City.
