On January 13, 2025, the Angeles City Government, under Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began the distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to elderly residents in Barangay Sta. Teresita. This program specifically targets 17 bedridden senior citizens and five individuals aged 90-99 years old. Mayor Lazatin was joined by City Councilor Niknok Bañola and local officials, including Barangay Captain Joel Sanchez, to oversee the distribution.
The city plans to extend this assistance to a total of 664 bedridden seniors and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 years old across all 33 barangays. Each recipient will receive P3,000 in cash and a supply of Vitamin C supplements to help address health concerns in this vulnerable group. The initiative demonstrates the city’s commitment to supporting its elderly population, particularly those facing physical challenges due to age.
In addition to the cash aid and vitamins, the program also includes free medical check-ups and laboratory tests for the elderly. These services, provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, aim to monitor and improve the health conditions of senior citizens, ensuring they receive comprehensive care.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the city will continue to prioritize the needs of its bedridden elderly and those aged 90-99. He highlighted that such initiatives are part of a broader effort to provide for the health and welfare of senior citizens in Angeles City, ensuring they receive the support they deserve.
The assistance distribution was organized by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), headed by Eduardo Torres. Torres noted that this initiative was launched in 2019, after Mayor Lazatin assumed office, marking the first time that registered seniors in the city received both financial assistance and health supplements such as Vitamin C.
Mayor Lazatin’s administration has consistently prioritized the welfare of the elderly, with a range of programs aimed at improving their quality of life. These include providing cash aid, free vaccines, and health services, ensuring that senior citizens have access to essential support in their later years.
The city’s continued focus on the elderly reflects a growing recognition of their importance within the community. Mayor Lazatin reiterated his commitment to ensuring the well-being of the elderly, particularly the bedridden and those aged 90 and above, through ongoing assistance and healthcare initiatives.
