ANGELES CITY – On January 30, 2025, the Angeles City Government, under Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began distributing P1,000 in cash assistance and five kilos of rice to 68 registered solo parents in Barangay Pandan. This house-to-house delivery marks the start of a city-wide initiative aimed at supporting the city’s solo parent community. A total of 2,500 registered solo parents from the city’s 33 barangays will receive these benefits.
The distribution effort was led by members of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), with Francis De Guzman heading the initiative. De Guzman explained that the recipients of the aid are registered members of the Solo Parents Affairs Office. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, noting that solo parents are deeply appreciative of the support from Mayor Lazatin.
“Solo parents are truly grateful because Mayor Lazatin has not forgotten to provide assistance,” De Guzman said. He emphasized that the cash aid and rice subsidy will greatly help families in need, especially as they continue to navigate the challenges of raising children on their own.
Since Mayor Lazatin took office in 2019, the CSWDO has been issuing identification cards to registered solo parents, allowing them to access the benefits they are entitled to. This system has made it easier for the city government to ensure that solo parents receive the support they need in a timely and organized manner.
In addition to the financial and rice subsidies, the city government also offers livelihood support to solo parents through various programs. One of the notable programs is the Angeleño First Facemask Livelihood Project, which has provided solo parents with an opportunity to earn a living while contributing to the community’s needs.
Mayor Lazatin’s administration continues to prioritize the welfare of solo parents, recognizing the vital role they play in the community. The city’s comprehensive approach to supporting solo parents through both financial aid and livelihood opportunities reflects the mayor’s commitment to improving the quality of life for families in need.
With this ongoing support, the Angeles City Government aims to empower solo parents, providing them with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. The cash and rice subsidies are just one of many initiatives that demonstrate the city’s dedication to fostering a stronger, more resilient community.
