On February 17, 2025, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., launched a house-to-house distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements for 16 bedridden senior citizens and nine senior citizens aged 90 to 99 years old in Barangay Lourdes Sur East. The distribution was conducted with the support of Barangay Lourdes Sur East Council, headed by Captain Alfredo Bulaun.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the importance of this initiative, which benefits a total of 664 registered bedridden senior citizens and 612 senior citizens aged 90-99 years across the 33 barangays in the city. In addition to the financial aid and Vitamin C supplements, the elderly recipients will also be given free medical check-ups and laboratory tests provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
This initiative is part of Mayor Lazatin’s ongoing commitment to prioritize the welfare of the city’s elderly population. “We continue to ensure that our elderly, especially those who are bedridden or aged 90 and above, receive the support and care they need,” said Mayor Lazatin. He further noted that the government’s services aim to address the specific needs of these vulnerable citizens.
The distribution of the aid was managed by the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), led by Eduardo Torres. Torres explained that this assistance program was initiated in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin took office. He highlighted that it was during the mayor’s tenure that registered senior citizens began receiving financial support and Vitamin C supplements, demonstrating a clear commitment to improving the lives of the elderly.
Mayor Lazatin has made it a priority to improve the living conditions of seniors in the city, ensuring that they are not left behind in terms of healthcare and financial stability. The program has also expanded to include free vaccines for the elderly, further demonstrating the city’s comprehensive approach to their well-being.
This ongoing support program aims to make a lasting impact on the quality of life for the elderly in Angeles City. By offering medical services, financial aid, and vitamins, the local government hopes to ensure that senior citizens live with dignity and access to necessary resources as they age.
The welfare of the elderly has always been a focal point of Mayor Lazatin’s leadership. Through programs like this, he continues to show that the city is dedicated to caring for its most vulnerable residents, reaffirming the importance of community-driven solutions for the elderly.
