The Angeles City Public Cemetery has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its Phase 3 expansion, increasing its total capacity to 12,518 niches and columbarium slots. This expansion ensures that the cemetery will be able to accommodate the growing needs of residents until 2030, providing much-needed burial space for the community.
On March 5, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. led the inauguration and blessing of the newly expanded section of the cemetery located in Barangay Capaya. This expansion is seen as a vital step in addressing the growing population of the city and the increased demand for burial space. The ceremony was attended by local officials, including Pampanga First District Representative Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, and members of the City Council, among others.
The newly expanded cemetery now includes 7,192 full-body niches, which are divided into 6,380 for adults and 812 for children. In addition, 3,726 bone niches and 1,600 columbarium slots have been added. The columbarium slots are capable of holding 2 to 3 urns, depending on the size, further enhancing the cemetery’s capacity. This expansion is expected to meet the city’s burial space needs for the next five years.
Before the completion of Phase 3, the cemetery had only 600 niches, which were quickly being filled due to the city’s increasing population. The expansion addresses this issue, ensuring that residents have access to dignified burial spaces for their loved ones without the worry of running out of space in the immediate future.
Mayor Lazatin highlighted the significance of the expansion, stating that it would allow the city to continue providing services to more residents. “Mas marami pa po tayong mabibigyan ng serbisyo sa ating public cemetery dahil na rin sa pagbubukas ng Phase 3 nito,” said the Mayor during the inauguration. This expansion demonstrates the city’s ongoing commitment to improving public services and addressing the needs of the community.
The expanded cemetery will not only serve the current residents but will also provide enough capacity for the city’s future needs. According to Bryan Samson, the Head of the Angeles City Public Cemetery, the expanded space is expected to be sufficient until 2030, without the need for any immediate further expansions.
The completion of Phase 3 is part of the larger effort by the city government to improve public infrastructure and services. With this expansion, the Angeles City Public Cemetery is now better equipped to serve the community and provide a respectful and secure resting place for Angeleños for many years to come.
