On February 19, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. proudly received the 2023 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance plaque at the Mayor’s Office Conference Room. The award was handed over by City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francis De Guzman. This marks the third consecutive year that the city has earned this prestigious recognition from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Since Mayor Lazatin took office in 2019, the welfare of children has been a central focus of his administration. The city government has worked tirelessly to implement programs and policies that prioritize the needs of the youth, ensuring they have access to quality education and resources for a brighter future.
A major highlight of the mayor’s commitment to the youth is his campaign, “No Angeleño youth will be left behind in terms of education.” To support this vision, the city has distributed free school supplies and gear to all public school students and day care learners in the area, helping to ease the burden on families and ensure that every child has the necessary tools for learning.
In addition to educational support, Mayor Lazatin’s administration has made significant investments in technology. The city has established 16 world-class computer laboratories, giving public students improved access to digital resources and enabling them to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the welfare of children will continue to be a top priority under his leadership. “I will continue to prioritize the well-being of Angeleño children because I believe they will be a significant and important part of our future,” he said, reaffirming his dedication to providing a nurturing environment for the city’s younger generation.
Also present during the ceremony was City Councilor Atty. Arvin Suller, who joined the Mayor in celebrating this achievement. The recognition underscores the city’s ongoing efforts to ensure that children’s rights are upheld and that they grow up in a safe, supportive, and child-friendly environment.
In conclusion, the third consecutive Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance is a testament to the success of Mayor Lazatin’s child-focused initiatives. With continued investment in education and resources for youth, Angeles City remains committed to building a brighter and more equitable future for all its young residents.
