ANGELES CITY – A significant environmental milestone is set to be achieved this March as the city government prepares to complete its first-ever wastewater treatment facility, funded entirely by the local government. The facility, located at the Pampang Public Market, aims to enhance public health and environmental sustainability. This project underscores the city’s proactive efforts in wastewater management and protection of water resources.
The new facility, once operational, will complement an existing one at the city’s slaughterhouse, which was built through a Joint Venture Agreement. Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. highlighted the dual benefits of this initiative, which includes not only promoting environmental protection but also ensuring cost efficiency for the local government. This facility marks a critical step in improving the city’s infrastructure for wastewater treatment.
The core purpose of the facility is to treat wastewater from the Pampang Public Market, converting it into clean and reusable water. This process will significantly reduce the pollution of water sources and help conserve valuable water resources. By removing contaminants from the wastewater, the facility will also help prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, contributing to better public health.
Mayor Lazatin further explained that once treated, the water could be repurposed for various uses, including agricultural activities, industrial applications, and cleaning purposes. This reuse will not only alleviate the demand for fresh water but will also contribute to more sustainable practices across different sectors in the city.
The city government has taken additional measures to minimize waste entering the water systems by reinforcing strict solid waste management policies at the public market and in all 33 barangays of Angeles City. This multi-faceted approach aims to further reduce water pollution and protect the local ecosystem.
This wastewater treatment project is part of Mayor Lazatin’s broader commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management, initiatives he has prioritized since assuming office in 2019. The facility’s completion by March will be a testament to his administration’s dedication to improving the city’s infrastructure and public health systems.
Through this project, Angeles City takes an important step toward achieving environmental sustainability while ensuring the protection of public health and conserving water resources. The city government hopes this project will serve as a model for other localities aiming to tackle similar challenges.
