Residents of Angeles City can now trade their accumulated plastic materials for rice at the Redemption Booth located within the City Hall Compound as part of the Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project. Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. has directed the Angeles City Economic Development Investment and Promotions Officer-in-Charge, Irish Bonus-Llego, to establish this redemption booth at the City Hall Compound in order to make the Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project more accessible to the community.
To participate in the plastic-to-rice exchange program, individuals must present a valid ID as proof of Angeles City residency. The redemption booth operates from Monday to Thursday, between 8AM and 5PM.
The primary goal of the Walang Plastikan – Plastik Palit Bigas Project is to promote waste segregation at the source within Angeleño households and to reduce or eliminate plastic usage. IC Calaguas, Lazatin’s Chief Adviser, explained that the city government will collect recyclable plastics from residents in exchange for rice, with the exchange rate being one kilo of recyclable plastics for one kilo of rice.
