For the second year in a row, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr. of Angeles City has proudly received the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). The award was presented on December 10, 2024, at the Manila Hotel, marking a significant milestone as the city earned the SGLG for the first time in consecutive years.
This back-to-back achievement is a historic moment for Angeles City, underscoring its sustained dedication to effective and transparent governance. Mayor Lazatin, accompanied by DILG-Angeles City Director Yvette Cosio, accepted the award with gratitude, acknowledging the efforts of city officials and employees who have contributed to this success.
In his remarks, Mayor Lazatin described the SGLG as the DILG’s highest recognition, which serves as an affirmation of the city’s commitment to delivering quality public service to its residents. “This award reflects the tireless work and dedication of our city employees,” he stated, expressing deep appreciation for their unwavering efforts.
The SGLG is a comprehensive evaluation program conducted by the DILG to assess the performance of Local Government Units (LGUs). The criteria include financial management, disaster preparedness, healthcare services, educational programs, business competitiveness, and more. Achieving high scores in these areas signifies that the city meets the standards set for effective governance and public service delivery.
Under Mayor Lazatin’s leadership, Angeles City has consistently demonstrated its commitment to innovation, public welfare, and disaster resilience. This recognition reinforces the city’s reputation as a model LGU that prioritizes the well-being of its residents and ensures efficient management of resources.
The back-to-back SGLG awards have also bolstered the city’s morale, motivating further development and service improvements. Mayor Lazatin noted that such accolades inspire continued progress, prompting local officials and employees to strive for even higher standards of governance and service.
With this recognition, Angeles City joins a select group of LGUs that have achieved such an honor, cementing its status as a leader in good local governance. The SGLG serves as both a badge of honor and a reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to maintain and enhance the quality of life for Angeleños.
