The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., has been recognized with the prestigious Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance in the 2024 Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit. This award highlights the city’s ongoing commitment to the welfare and development of its young residents, marking a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to provide a child-friendly environment.
The Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance is granted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to local government units that demonstrate a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for children through the implementation of policies and programs that promote their rights and welfare. Mayor Lazatin expressed his pride in the achievement, noting that it reflects the city’s dedication to creating a safer, healthier, and more supportive environment for children.
Under Mayor Lazatin’s leadership, the city government has implemented various programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of children, such as providing access to quality education, healthcare, and social services. These efforts have been integral in meeting the criteria set by the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit, which assesses LGUs based on their implementation of child welfare policies and programs.
Among the initiatives that contributed to Angeles City’s recognition were the expansion of educational support programs, the strengthening of child protection services, and the improvement of child healthcare facilities. The local government has also made strides in ensuring that children in the city have access to recreational spaces, safe environments, and services that promote their overall development.
The Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance is awarded based on the results of a comprehensive audit, which includes an evaluation of the LGU’s performance in areas such as child protection, participation, survival, and development. The audit also assesses the level of coordination between the local government and other stakeholders in implementing child-focused policies and programs.
In his statement, Mayor Lazatin expressed his gratitude to the city’s various departments and partners who have contributed to this achievement. He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing efforts to make Angeles City a better place for children, ensuring that their rights are protected and that they have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.
This recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing the needs of children in local governance. As Angeles City continues to lead the way in child-friendly initiatives, the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance will undoubtedly inspire other local government units to follow suit and prioritize the well-being of their younger residents.
