Angeles City concluded its celebration of National Arts Month with a simple yet meaningful ceremony at Plaza Angel, Museo Ning Angeles. The event honored the artistic spirit of the community, highlighting the creativity of local artists and performers. The program began with a symbolic ritual where prayers, written in the indigenous script Kulitan, were burned in a ceremony known as “Pamagdaun Pangadi Keng Banal a Api.” This act was led by renowned Kapampangan visual artist, Norman Tiotuico, who played a central role in the event.
Kuliat Foundation, Inc. (KFI) President, Lincoln M. Baluyut, addressed the audience, emphasizing the theme of National Arts Month: “Ani ng Sining, Diwa at Damdamin” (The Harvest of Art, Spirit, and Emotion). He expressed that the theme deeply resonated throughout the events, highlighting the powerful link between art, spirit, and emotions. Baluyut acknowledged the importance of these artistic expressions in preserving cultural heritage and celebrating the creativity of the Angeleños.
In his message, Baluyut also took the opportunity to express his gratitude towards the artists, performers, and all partners who contributed to the success of the month-long celebration. He urged the attendees to continue nurturing the spirit of artistry and collaboration not just in February, but throughout the entire year, as creativity plays a pivotal role in the growth and development of the community.
The ceremony also recognized the efforts of the younger generation in the arts. Certificates of recognition and special awards were given to the participants of the Children’s Art Workshops, a program that allowed the youth of Angeles City to showcase their creative talents. This initiative aims to foster an appreciation for the arts from an early age and encourage future generations to continue the cultural legacy of the community.
The event was further enlivened by vibrant performances from the City College of Angeles (CCA) Sayaw Angeleño Dance Troupe, whose captivating routines highlighted the richness of local dance traditions. Additionally, local Kapampangan bands performed, adding to the festive atmosphere and demonstrating the diverse musical talents that thrive in the region.
Otu David, who hosted the event, shared the significance of the celebration, which not only closed National Arts Month but also served as a reminder of the importance of fostering local culture. The gathering at Plaza Angel was a testament to the community’s dedication to preserving and promoting their unique artistic heritage, while also encouraging innovation and collaboration.
The closing ceremony encapsulated the spirit of National Arts Month in Angeles City, where art, emotion, and community came together to celebrate the vibrant local culture. The event reinforced the message that art is not just for a designated month but an essential part of daily life, and that the creative energy in Angeles City should continue to flourish throughout the year.
