On March 3, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. awarded a certificate of recognition and a P100,000 cash incentive to Barangay Mining, led by Captain Lester Hernandez, for earning the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). This recognition highlights the barangay’s commitment to transparency, effective governance, and exemplary public service.
Out of the 3,102 barangays in Central Luzon, Barangay Mining was one of only 193 to receive the Seal, a distinction awarded to those that demonstrate excellence across key areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, and environmental management. The SGLGB is a testament to the barangay’s dedication to upholding good governance and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
Barangay Captain Lester Hernandez, who accepted the award on behalf of the community, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He acknowledged that this achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and collaboration of the barangay council and its residents. The certificate of recognition and cash incentive will be used to further enhance public service programs and initiatives within Barangay Mining.
Mayor Lazatin praised the efforts of Barangay Mining, calling their achievement a shining example for other barangays in Angeles City. He emphasized that this recognition should serve as motivation for other local government units to pursue excellence in governance and continuously improve their services to the public.
“The Seal of Good Local Governance reflects the dedication of Barangay Mining in ensuring the welfare of its people. It is a model of good governance, and I hope this achievement will inspire other barangays to follow in their footsteps,” said Mayor Lazatin. He further encouraged all barangays to focus on transparency, effective public service, and community development.
The SGLGB award also comes with a cash incentive, which Barangay Mining plans to use for community development projects and programs that will further benefit its residents. The recognition from the DILG strengthens the barangay’s position as a leader in good governance and public service within the region.
This recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of good governance in local communities. Barangay Mining’s accomplishment is a significant achievement for both the barangay and the city of Angeles, demonstrating the impact of effective leadership and the dedication of local officials in serving their communities.
