Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. recently extended his congratulations to the teachers and non-academic staff of the City College of Angeles (CCA) after the institution was honored with the prestigious Excellence in Quality Assurance in Teacher Education (EQUATE) Award by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The award was presented to Dr. Frankie Villanueva, President of CCA, on April 2, 2025, during a ceremony at the Manila Hotel.
The EQUATE Award is given to universities and colleges that consistently uphold the highest standards in the quality of pre-service teacher education programs. These institutions are recognized for meeting the CHED minimum standards, maintaining program accreditation, and demonstrating excellent performance in the Board of Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT).
CCA was one of 120 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) out of 1,553 nationwide to receive the prestigious recognition in the field of Teacher Education. Notably, CCA was also one of only three local universities and colleges to be awarded, highlighting its significant contribution to shaping future educators.
In his remarks, Mayor Lazatin praised CCA for setting the bar high in teacher education and noted that the award is a testament to the institution’s dedication to academic excellence, innovation, and quality assurance. The recognition underscores the city’s commitment to improving education standards and providing top-notch training for educators.
The EQUATE Award is a reflection of CCA’s ongoing efforts to enhance its programs and uphold quality in its teacher education initiatives. Mayor Lazatin also took this opportunity to acknowledge CCA’s continued push toward accreditation, as the institution is currently undergoing the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA) Level 2 accreditation process for its seven bachelor’s degree programs.
These programs, which include Bachelor of Library and Information Science, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Information Systems, Bachelor of Physical Education, and Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education, are now under scrutiny for their adherence to academic excellence and industry standards.
The EQUATE Award reinforces CCA’s standing as a leader in education, with continued efforts to provide quality programs that serve the community and contribute to the development of highly qualified educators.
