On March 6, 2025, 25 day care students from the National Child Development Center (NCDC) participated in a vegetable harvesting activity at the City Agriculture Office. This initiative allowed the young learners to engage in a hands-on experience with nature while learning about agriculture and the importance of healthy food. The activity was designed to be an enjoyable and educational experience, exposing the children to real-world concepts outside the classroom setting.
The students were joined by their parents, as well as City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francis De Guzman and NCDC Child Development Worker Marina Gatmaitan. Together, they worked alongside the children to harvest various vegetables, fostering a sense of teamwork and community involvement. The event also served as an opportunity for families to bond while contributing to a shared learning experience.
Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. emphasized the importance of such extracurricular activities, noting that they provide invaluable educational benefits for the children. “This vegetable harvesting activity is part of the extracurricular program for the day care students. It is an opportunity for them to learn about food production, sustainability, and nutrition in a fun, hands-on environment,” Mayor Lazatin explained.
The activity was designed not only to teach the children about agriculture but also to encourage healthy eating habits and a deeper understanding of where food comes from. By involving parents in the event, the city also promoted family engagement and teamwork, strengthening the connection between home, school, and community.
Mayor Lazatin expressed his continued support for activities that help children grow in both academic and practical knowledge. “These kinds of activities are vital in shaping well-rounded, responsible citizens. It’s not just about what they learn in the classroom, but also about connecting them to the world around them and fostering an appreciation for nature and sustainability,” the mayor said.
Through this event, the city of Angeles continues to promote the holistic development of its youth. By integrating learning experiences like this one into the daily lives of children, the local government aims to instill values of responsibility, sustainability, and community involvement from an early age.
In addition to learning about farming, the students also gained a greater appreciation for the importance of healthy eating and the role agriculture plays in their lives. The city’s focus on these extracurricular programs highlights its commitment to providing well-rounded education for its young learners and nurturing their potential in various aspects of life.
