ANGELES CITY – On January 23, 2025, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) turned over a brand new service van to the Angeles City Government as part of the city’s reward for achieving the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) in 2023. The turnover ceremony took place at the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), with Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. receiving the vehicle from DILG Region III Director Atty. Anthony Nuyda.
The service van was awarded to the city under the SGLG Incentive Fund, which recognizes local government units for their exemplary performance in governance, public service, and local development. Mayor Lazatin expressed his gratitude for the award, saying the vehicle will be instrumental in the operations of the CSWDO, especially in the ongoing efforts to reunite mentally-challenged individuals with their families.
Mayor Lazatin explained that the service van will primarily be used to assist in the transportation of mentally-challenged individuals who have been rescued by the city and are in need of reunification with their families. This initiative is part of the city’s broader efforts to improve social services and provide better care for vulnerable populations.
The turnover ceremony was attended by several local officials, including City Councilors Atty. Arvin Suller, DILG – Angeles City Director Yvette Cosio, CSWDO Officer-in-Charge Francis De Guzman, former CSWDO Head Edna Duaso, and City Planning and Development Officer Engr. Nilda Quito. Other department heads from the city government were also present to witness the handover of the vehicle.
The SGLG is a rigorous performance audit conducted by DILG to challenge provinces, cities, and municipalities to meet high standards of governance. It serves as an incentive for local governments to continually improve their services and achieve better outcomes for their constituents. The van symbolizes the city’s commitment to maintaining excellent governance and enhancing public service delivery.
The Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) recognizes local governments that meet the criteria in various areas such as financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, and environmental management. Angeles City’s receipt of the service van highlights its dedication to these areas, which ultimately contribute to the overall well-being of its residents.
With the addition of this service vehicle, Mayor Lazatin reaffirmed the city government’s commitment to delivering quality public services and addressing the needs of its residents. The vehicle will be a valuable resource as the CSWDO continues to serve the community, especially in its vital work with vulnerable individuals in need of care and support.
