ANGELES CITY – On March 7, 2025, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon visited Angeles City to request the local government’s assistance in resolving right-of-way concerns for the Clark-Angeles-Calumpit railway project. This project is a crucial component of the North-South Commuter Railway extension and aims to improve transportation in the region.
During the meeting, Secretary Dizon discussed the importance of the project and how delays in resolving land acquisition issues could slow down progress. He called on the local officials to work together to expedite the process and ensure smooth construction of the railway. The project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and boost the local economy by improving connectivity in the region.
Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. expressed full support for the project, emphasizing its potential to enhance transportation efficiency for the people of Angeles City. He acknowledged the importance of addressing right-of-way issues swiftly to avoid delays. However, he also urged the DOTr to involve the affected barangays in discussions and decisions related to land acquisition to ensure fairness and transparency.
Secretary Dizon assured the Mayor that the DOTr is committed to collaborating with the Angeles City government and other stakeholders to resolve any challenges swiftly. He recognized that the support of local officials and residents is vital for the success of the project and that the DOTr is willing to address concerns in a fair and timely manner.
In addition to Mayor Lazatin, several key city officials were present at the meeting, including Atty. Arvin Suller, the Chief Adviser to the Mayor and current DOTr Assistant Secretary. Also in attendance were Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, DOTr PMC Engr. Shi Yamamoto, and members of the City Engineer’s Office and other relevant departments.
The North-South Commuter Railway Clark Extension Project is set to serve approximately 342,000 passengers daily once completed, making it a significant infrastructure project in the region. The project aims to improve the transportation network, reduce traffic, and provide an efficient, reliable means of commuting for the local population.
As both the DOTr and Angeles City work together to address right-of-way concerns, the goal is to complete the necessary land acquisitions as soon as possible to avoid delays and ensure the timely implementation of this vital infrastructure project. This collaboration between the national government and local authorities underscores the importance of a united effort to improve transportation for the benefit of the public.
