Dr. Francisco “Frankie” L. Villanueva, Jr. has been reappointed as the President of the City College of Angeles (CCA), effective November 7, 2024. The announcement was made by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, Jr., who expressed his confidence in Dr. Villanueva’s leadership to continue driving the progress and growth of the city-run institution. With his extensive background in business management and previous leadership experience as a director at Clark Development Corporation, Dr. Villanueva is expected to bring innovative ideas to further develop CCA.
Mayor Lazatin shared his optimism regarding Dr. Villanueva’s leadership, stating that under his guidance, CCA will continue to experience positive changes. He emphasized his vision for the college to expand its facilities, faculty, and range of courses, ultimately benefiting a larger number of students and scholars. “I am confident that CCA will continue to see positive developments under Dr. Villanueva’s guidance,” said Lazatin.
Dr. Villanueva’s previous tenure as president was marked by significant achievements, most notably the successful accreditation of seven CCA bachelor’s degree programs by the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA). This milestone is crucial as it not only enhances the college’s academic credibility but also opens the door for numerous opportunities, including grants, scholarships, and funding for faculty and students.
The accredited programs at CCA now include a diverse array of bachelor’s degrees such as Bachelor of Library and Information Science, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, Tourism Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Physical Education, and Technical Vocational Teacher Education. These accredited programs offer students enhanced academic and career opportunities, making CCA a more competitive institution in the region.
Dr. Villanueva’s leadership is expected to continue fostering an environment of growth and academic excellence at CCA. With his reappointment, the college is poised to further build on its achievements, ensuring that its programs remain aligned with the evolving needs of students and the community. The accreditation has also made CCA eligible to receive support for research projects, providing students and faculty with valuable resources to enhance their educational experience.
The reappointment reflects the city’s commitment to advancing quality education and offering more opportunities for its students. Under Dr. Villanueva’s leadership, the college is expected to continue its mission of providing accessible higher education and contributing to the development of the city’s workforce. His vision for CCA is in line with the broader goals of Mayor Lazatin to create a more vibrant, sustainable, and educated community in Angeles City.
As the new term begins, both Dr. Villanueva and the CCA community are focused on further advancing the institution’s reputation and offerings. With a focus on academic excellence, innovation, and the professional development of students, Dr. Villanueva’s leadership will continue to shape the future of CCA as a center of higher learning and a pillar of the city’s educational progress.
