On November 21, 2024, the Angeles City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., began the house-to-house distribution of P3,000 financial assistance and Vitamin C supplements to bedridden senior citizens and those aged 90 to 99 years old in Barangay Lourdes Sur. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to support its elderly residents, particularly those who face significant health challenges due to age and physical limitations.
The distribution was accompanied by City Councilor Marino Bañola, who joined Mayor Lazatin in personally delivering the much-needed assistance to the senior citizens. A total of 16 elderly individuals in Barangay Lourdes Sur benefited from the program, including seven bedridden seniors and nine seniors in the 90-99 age group. This is just one part of a broader effort that will see over 1,200 seniors across 33 barangays in the city receiving similar support.
In addition to the cash aid and Vitamin C supplements, the program offers additional services such as free medical check-ups and laboratory tests. These health services will be provided by the City Health Office and the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. The initiative ensures that the elderly not only receive financial support but also access essential healthcare, helping to improve their overall well-being.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that this initiative is a continuation of his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of bedridden elderly citizens and those in the 90-99 age bracket. The mayor’s efforts focus on ensuring that senior citizens, especially those who are most vulnerable, have access to the care and resources they need for a better quality of life.
The distribution was carried out with the assistance of the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), which is led by Eduardo Torres. Torres explained that this initiative began in 2019 when Mayor Lazatin assumed office, marking the start of systematic support for senior citizens in the city. This is the first time in the city’s history that registered senior citizens have received regular cash assistance and vitamin supplements.
The support for the elderly has been a long-standing priority of Mayor Lazatin’s administration. The cash assistance and healthcare services are designed to provide not only immediate relief but also long-term benefits for the elderly, particularly those with limited mobility and healthcare access.
As the program continues to roll out across the city, Mayor Lazatin remains committed to improving the welfare of the elderly. He believes that by addressing the physical, financial, and medical needs of seniors, the city can help them live healthier and more fulfilling lives during their golden years.
