In a continued effort to prioritize animal welfare, the Angeles City Government, through its City Veterinary Office, conducted a free anti-rabies vaccination program for dogs and cats in Barangay Amsic on October 30, 2024. This initiative is part of a broader, city-wide campaign aimed at safeguarding public health and preventing rabies outbreaks. It underscores the city’s commitment to the well-being of animals and the safety of its residents.
The City Veterinary Office, under the leadership of Dr. Christian Xyric Arcilla, has planned a comprehensive vaccination schedule across the city’s 33 barangays. This calendar of vaccinations ensures that pet owners in all corners of the city have easy access to this crucial service. By reaching out to different barangays, the city is making significant strides toward eliminating the risks posed by rabies, which can be transmitted to humans through animal bites.
Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, an advocate for animal welfare, emphasized that this initiative is a continuation of a program started when Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. assumed office. The program has been a priority for the city, as part of its broader efforts to ensure that pets are properly cared for and protected from preventable diseases. Manuel expressed that the city government’s focus on animal welfare is integral to building a healthier community.
According to Manuel, the vaccination program is closely supervised by the city’s Chief Adviser, IC Calaguas, who has been instrumental in organizing and supporting these efforts. The city’s proactive stance on animal welfare is seen not just in rabies vaccination programs, but also in other initiatives that promote responsible pet ownership.
Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. also reiterated the importance of these programs in his appeal to the residents. He encouraged pet owners to take advantage of the free vaccination services to ensure the health and safety of their pets. “Nanawagan po ako sa lahat ng mga pet owners na pabakunahan ang kanilang mga alagang hayop sa gagawing Bakuna sa Barangay para sa mga alagang aso at pusa,” Lazatin said.
Through this free vaccination initiative, the city government aims to promote responsible pet ownership, as it is vital to prevent the spread of rabies and protect both pets and humans. The program is a crucial step in advancing public health and animal welfare in Angeles City, ensuring that residents are educated about their responsibilities as pet owners.
The free anti-rabies vaccination program will continue to roll out across the city’s barangays, with more scheduled dates planned throughout the year. The city government hopes to reach every pet owner in Angeles City, helping reduce the risks associated with rabies and further promoting a culture of responsible pet care among Angeleño households.
