On March 4, 2025, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. instructed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to conduct fumigation at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Apung Mamacalulu as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to combat dengue. This initiative is aligned with the city government’s commitment to reducing the risk of dengue outbreaks by targeting mosquito populations in high-traffic areas.
The fumigation is part of the city’s 4S strategy, which stands for Search and Destroy, Self-Protection Measures, Seek Early Consultation, and Say Yes to Fogging in case of an outbreak. This strategy aims to protect residents and visitors from the dangerous mosquito-borne disease by addressing mosquito breeding sites, encouraging preventive actions, and providing timely intervention.
By targeting areas with significant public gatherings like the Apung Mamacalulu Shrine, the local government hopes to minimize the chances of dengue transmission. Fumigation, which involves spraying insecticides to kill adult mosquitoes, is an essential part of this approach, helping to reduce the mosquito population in key locations around the city.
The city government has been proactive in its approach to dengue prevention and has emphasized the importance of community cooperation. Alongside the fumigation efforts, officials have urged residents to practice self-protection measures, such as wearing long sleeves and using mosquito repellent, to further reduce the risk of exposure to mosquitoes.
Mayor Lazatin has also emphasized the importance of seeking early medical consultation if any symptoms of dengue appear. The city’s health teams are working to ensure that residents are informed about the signs of the disease, and the 4S strategy continues to be promoted throughout the community.
In addition to the fumigation at the shrine, similar activities are being conducted in other areas of the city. The aim is to create a broad, coordinated effort to combat the spread of dengue and ensure that public spaces are safe for all citizens.
With these efforts in place, the Angeles City government is taking a comprehensive approach to dengue prevention, combining fumigation with education and community involvement to protect the health and well-being of its residents.
