On December 20, 2024, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out fumigation operations in Barangay Claro M. Recto. This initiative is part of the city’s continued efforts to combat the spread of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease that poses a significant health risk, especially during the rainy season.
The fumigation in Barangay Claro M. Recto is part of the city’s implementation of the 4S strategy, a comprehensive plan aimed at preventing and controlling dengue. The strategy includes four key components: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, self-protection measures for residents, seeking early consultation if symptoms arise, and agreeing to fogging operations if an outbreak is detected. This multi-pronged approach aims to significantly reduce the risk of dengue transmission.
The fumigation operation targets areas in Barangay Claro M. Recto where mosquitoes are most likely to breed, such as stagnant water sources and areas with dense vegetation. The goal is to eliminate adult mosquitoes and their larvae, thereby decreasing the chances of an outbreak in the area. The city government is taking these measures to ensure the health and safety of residents in the barangay.
Mayor Lazatin’s directive to conduct fumigation follows a series of preventive measures already undertaken by the local government to address dengue cases in the city. With dengue being a recurring concern, the mayor continues to prioritize public health initiatives, especially those that protect children and other vulnerable groups from the disease.
In addition to the fumigation efforts in Barangay Claro M. Recto, the city government has also planned fumigation operations in other barangays across Angeles City. This city-wide approach ensures that all areas are included in the effort to control the spread of dengue and minimize potential outbreaks.
The fumigation activities are also complemented by awareness campaigns that encourage residents to implement self-protection measures, such as wearing long sleeves and using mosquito repellent, particularly during peak mosquito activity times. The combination of fogging and community participation is critical to the success of the dengue prevention strategy.
As the city moves forward with its fight against dengue, the ongoing fumigation operations and the 4S strategy demonstrate the government’s proactive stance in safeguarding the health of its citizens. By taking swift action, Angeles City aims to keep the spread of dengue under control and protect the well-being of its residents.
