On November 12, 2024, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to conduct fumigation activities in Barangay San Nicolas as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to control the spread of dengue. The operation was aimed at eradicating mosquitoes that are known to carry the disease, ensuring the health and safety of the community.
The fumigation is part of a broader initiative by the city government, which has adopted the 4S strategy in combating dengue. This strategy includes search and destroy, which focuses on eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, promoting self-protection measures, encouraging early consultation for symptoms, and advocating fogging in the event of a dengue outbreak. These combined measures are designed to reduce the incidence of the disease in the city.
The fumigation process in Barangay San Nicolas specifically targets areas that are known mosquito hotspots, such as open drains, stagnant water, and other locations where mosquitoes breed. The goal is to minimize the number of mosquitoes in the area and prevent the outbreak of dengue fever, which has been a growing concern in many parts of the country.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the city’s proactive approach to fumigation is an essential step in ensuring public health. He noted that the government is closely monitoring the situation in all barangays, and that regular fumigation efforts will continue as part of a long-term strategy to protect residents from mosquito-borne illnesses.
In addition to the fumigation in Barangay San Nicolas, the Angeles City Government plans to extend these efforts to other barangays throughout the city. By reaching more areas, the city hopes to curb the spread of dengue and ensure that all communities are covered by these preventive measures.
City officials have also urged residents to cooperate with the fumigation teams, by following safety guidelines during the fogging process and taking necessary precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites. They are reminded to eliminate standing water in their homes, wear appropriate clothing, and seek immediate medical attention if they show any signs of dengue.
With the fumigation activities now in full swing, the Angeles City Government remains committed to its fight against dengue. Through continued efforts and the support of the community, they aim to significantly reduce the risks associated with the disease and improve the overall health and well-being of the city’s residents.
