On January 7, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. ordered the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to conduct fumigation in Barangay Capaya as part of the city’s comprehensive effort to prevent the spread of dengue. The fumigation aims to reduce the number of mosquitoes, the primary carriers of the dengue virus, in the area.
The fumigation is in line with the city’s 4S strategy, which includes “search and destroy,” “self-protection measures,” “seek early consultation,” and “say yes to fogging in case of an outbreak.” This multi-faceted approach is designed to reduce mosquito breeding sites and ensure residents are protected from the dangers of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease that continues to affect communities in tropical regions.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that fumigation plays a crucial role in preventing the outbreak of dengue by targeting mosquito hotspots where larvae may be breeding. The fumigation activity, which involves the use of insecticide to eliminate adult mosquitoes, is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and minimize the risk of disease transmission.
In addition to fumigation, the city government is actively promoting the 4S strategy to encourage public participation in dengue prevention. The search-and-destroy component involves residents identifying and eliminating possible mosquito breeding grounds around their homes, such as stagnant water in containers and uncovered water tanks.
The strategy also promotes self-protection measures, including the use of insect repellents, wearing long sleeves and pants, and using mosquito nets to prevent bites. In the event of suspected dengue symptoms, residents are urged to seek early consultation with health professionals to ensure prompt diagnosis and treatment.
As part of the city’s broader initiative, fumigation will not be limited to Barangay Capaya. Mayor Lazatin confirmed that similar fumigation activities will be carried out in other barangays across the city in the coming days, ensuring that the city’s efforts to control the spread of dengue reach all communities.
With the ongoing fumigation efforts in Barangay Capaya, Mayor Lazatin once again called for the cooperation of all residents. By working together and following the 4S strategy, he stressed, the city can effectively combat dengue and protect the health and safety of Angeleños.
