On October 30, 2024, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. directed the Angeles City Barangay Outreach team to carry out a fumigation operation in Barangay Cutud. This initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to combat the rising threat of dengue, a mosquito-borne illness that poses a significant public health risk, especially during the rainy season.
The fumigation activity is a key component of the city’s comprehensive approach to controlling mosquito populations and preventing dengue outbreaks. The operation aims to eliminate mosquito larvae and reduce adult mosquito numbers in the area, thus helping to curb the spread of the disease.
In addition to the fumigation, the local government is actively implementing the 4S strategy. This four-step approach includes search and destroy efforts to eliminate breeding grounds, promoting self-protection measures like using insect repellent and wearing protective clothing, encouraging early consultation with healthcare providers, and supporting fogging or fumigation activities during outbreaks.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that the fumigation operations are not limited to Barangay Cutud. The City Government plans to expand these efforts across other barangays in Angeles City to ensure a citywide response to the dengue threat. This proactive approach is meant to safeguard residents’ health and prevent the spread of the disease.
The city government is urging all residents to remain vigilant and cooperate in the campaign against dengue. Authorities are encouraging individuals to regularly check their surroundings for potential mosquito breeding sites such as stagnant water in containers, old tires, and clogged drains.
With the rainy season contributing to the proliferation of mosquitoes, Mayor Lazatin has reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in fighting dengue. The local government is working closely with barangay leaders to ensure that fumigation activities are conducted effectively and efficiently in all areas.
Through these combined efforts of fumigation, public awareness, and community cooperation, the city government aims to reduce the risk of dengue outbreaks in Angeles City and keep the community safe from the mosquito-borne illness.
