ANGELES CITY – In response to two recent shooting incidents in the city, Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has ordered an increase in police visibility and the establishment of 24/7 checkpoints at all major entry points into Angeles City. The directive, issued on March 17, 2025, comes after the March 15 shootings in Barangays Mining and Ninoy Aquino, which left both victims hospitalized.
Mayor Lazatin expressed his commitment to ensuring the safety of every resident. “We want to guarantee the safety of every Angeleño. By enhancing police visibility and maintaining continuous checkpoints, we will reduce crime and provide peace of mind for our citizens,” Lazatin said. The mayor emphasized that these measures are crucial to restore order and security following the violent incidents.
To support these intensified efforts, the city government has allocated an annual budget of P11 million to cover the allowances for personnel from the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO). As part of this initiative, P500,000 in remaining funds will be used to fuel ongoing police patrols throughout the city. This allocation is aimed at ensuring that the police force is always ready to respond quickly and effectively to any situation.
In addition to increased patrols and checkpoints, Mayor Lazatin reassured business owners and residents that the strengthened police presence would make them feel more secure. He encouraged the community to actively report crimes such as theft, robbery, and other illegal activities. This, he believes, will foster a safer environment for everyone.
The local government, in partnership with the ACPO, continues to enhance its law enforcement strategies to maintain peace in Angeles City. Mayor Lazatin called for continued vigilance and collaboration from the public to prevent further incidents and ensure the well-being of the city’s residents.
In a bid to further improve safety, the city also inaugurated an upgraded Command Center in February 2025. As part of this modernization, 210 additional high-tech security cameras were installed at strategic locations across the city. With a total of 375 operational cameras now monitoring the streets, the city’s surveillance system ensures there are no blind spots, contributing to more effective crime prevention.
Mayor Lazatin concluded his remarks by reiterating his commitment to maintaining peace and order. He urged citizens to work closely with the police by immediately reporting suspicious activities. With these combined efforts, Angeles City aims to strengthen public safety and reduce criminal activity across the community.
