In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., proudly launched the visual art exhibit titled “Malagû.” This remarkable event, organized by the Angeles City Tourism Office in collaboration with the Gender and Development Office, PAMITIPUN king Panyúlung ning Kalalangan at Ámánang Kabiasnan Kapampángan (Artist Collective), and SM City Clark, showcases the creative talents of local artists while honoring the achievements of women in various fields.
The “Malagû” exhibit, curated by renowned artist Norman Tiotuico, is a vibrant celebration of local artistry and a powerful tribute to National Women’s Month. The exhibit aims to raise awareness about gender equality and women’s empowerment through the lens of visual art, featuring diverse works by both male and female artists. It emphasizes the role of women in the arts and the significant contributions they make to culture and society.
During the opening ceremony, a number of distinguished guests were present, including Vice Mayor Ma. Vicenta Vega-Cabigting, Councilor JC Aguas, Councilor Mitch Bonifacio, OIC-Gender and Development Office Mina Cabiles, and OIC Angeles City Tourism Office Anneleen Antonio-Sugui. SM City Clark Assistant Mall Manager Grace Gavino, along with curator Norman Tiotuico, also attended the event, which was marked by speeches highlighting the importance of recognizing women’s contributions to the arts and society.
The exhibit features the works of several local artists, including Norman Tiotuico, Ailyn A. Gonzales, May Ann Reyes, Ramil Tumampos, and Arnel David Garcia, among others. Artists such as Arnold Salunga, Donna S. Camaya, and Lloyd Dacayanan also contributed their pieces, showcasing a wide range of mediums and styles. The diversity in the artworks reflects the varied perspectives and experiences of women, while also highlighting the talents of both emerging and established artists.
“Through Malagû, we aim to honor women not just through words but through the visual storytelling of our local artists,” said Mayor Lazatin. The exhibit also highlights the importance of gender sensitivity and the promotion of women’s rights within the community, aligning with the city’s efforts to encourage empowerment and equal opportunities for all.
The Malagû exhibit provides an inspiring platform for artists to express their support for gender equality while contributing to the cultural richness of Angeles City. Visitors will find a captivating collection of art that not only celebrates women but also invites reflection on the progress that still needs to be made for achieving gender equality in the community.
This exhibit, which will be held at SM City Clark, is open to the public, and the Angeles City Government encourages everyone to visit and immerse themselves in the works of local artists.
