On November 11, 2024, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. publicly recognized a remarkable act of diligence by Jail Officer 1 (JO1) Camille Ann Romero. The mayor presented Romero with a certificate of commendation and a cash incentive for her exceptional work in uncovering a contraband tobacco shipment that was being smuggled into the Angeles City District Jail Male Dormitory.
Romero’s keen observation and quick thinking led to the discovery of the illegal goods, preventing their distribution inside the facility. Her actions demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining discipline and security within the jail. The tobacco smuggling attempt had the potential to disrupt the jail’s environment, but thanks to Romero’s vigilance, the operation was thwarted before it could escalate.
During the award ceremony, Mayor Lazatin expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Romero’s efforts, praising her dedication to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of the community. He also emphasized the importance of the role played by jail officers in the city’s broader efforts to fight criminal activities and improve safety for residents.
Accompanying the mayor at the ceremony was Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rudy Simeon, who also lauded Romero’s commitment to excellence. Simeon highlighted the importance of teamwork between various city departments and the justice system in maintaining order and safety, particularly in correctional facilities where security is of the utmost importance.
In his speech, Lazatin further stated that Romero’s swift response and responsible handling of the situation should serve as an inspiration for others in the public service sector. He pointed out that the city government was committed to supporting its personnel, especially those who go above and beyond their duties to protect and serve the people of Angeles City.
The commendation ceremony, held at the city hall, was a testament to the city government’s commitment to recognizing the hard work of its employees. Lazatin and Simeon both expressed their desire to see more acts of diligence and integrity from public servants, knowing that these small but crucial actions contribute significantly to the well-being of the entire city.
Through this recognition, the mayor reaffirmed the city’s stand against illegal activities within its borders. The prevention of contraband from entering the Angeles City District Jail Male Dormitory was a significant victory in the fight against criminal operations, ensuring a safer environment for both inmates and law enforcement officers.
