ANGELES CITY – Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. has expressed his full support for the recent appointment of Vince Dizon as the new Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr). Lazatin believes that Dizon’s leadership will accelerate the development of crucial transport infrastructure projects that will significantly benefit the entire country.
One of the key projects that will gain momentum under Dizon’s leadership is the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) System. This ambitious project aims to connect Clark International Airport and the City of San Fernando to Manila, extending all the way to Calamba City in Laguna. The NSCR will include 35 stations, including Clark and the historic train station in San Fernando, as well as 464 train cars and three depots, once completed.
Lazatin, a long-time supporter of Clark’s development, believes that Dizon’s experience as the former president and CEO of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) will help speed up the realization of this project. He noted that the NSCR will not only enhance regional connectivity but also drive up passenger traffic at Clark International Airport, which handled 2.4 million passengers in 2024 alone.
The growth of Clark International Airport, which saw nearly 20,000 flights in 2024, underscores the need for efficient transportation links. As more international and domestic flights come in and out of the airport, having seamless access through the NSCR will make Clark a more attractive hub for travelers and investors alike.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized that with Dizon leading the DOTr, the city can expect further improvements in the transportation infrastructure that would increase the country’s competitiveness in the global market. He believes that such developments will make the Philippines more appealing to local and foreign investors.
The mayor also pointed out that the continued growth of transport infrastructure in the country will play a key role in boosting investments, especially with a modern, integrated transport system. A well-connected infrastructure will lead to increased economic opportunities, reduced travel times, and improved business efficiency.
Dizon’s track record as the BCDA head during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration has already shown his ability to drive significant infrastructure projects forward. With his expertise and leadership, Mayor Lazatin remains optimistic about the future of transportation in the Philippines. The successful development of these projects will enhance economic prospects for cities like Angeles, as well as the broader region.
