On March 26, 2025, Angeles City Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. turned over ₱300,000 in financial support to Barangay Lourdes Northwest for the staging of their annual Siete Palabras presentation. The fund will help bring to life the traditional Lenten dramatization of the “Seven Last Words” of Jesus Christ, a meaningful Holy Week activity in the barangay.
The financial assistance was received by Barangay Captain Nicanor Soriano and members of the Lourdes Northwest Barangay Council during a simple turnover ceremony held at the Mayor’s Office. Mayor Lazatin expressed his admiration for the barangay’s continued commitment to promoting local faith-based traditions.
The Siete Palabras is a street dramatization that creatively portrays the final moments of Christ, offering both spiritual reflection and artistic expression for the community. The event is a staple of Holy Week in Angeles City and draws large audiences annually.
Mayor Lazatin emphasized the city government’s support for cultural and religious events that enrich the spiritual lives of Angeleños. “Ang mga ganitong programa ay mahalagang bahagi ng ating kultura at pananampalataya. Karapat-dapat lamang na ito ay ating patuloy na suportahan,” he said.
Captain Soriano expressed his gratitude for the mayor’s consistent support, stating that the financial aid will significantly help cover the production costs and ensure the success of the event. He also shared that the Siete Palabras has become an anticipated tradition not just for the barangay, but for visitors from nearby communities.
The funding will go towards stage design, costumes, sound systems, and other logistical needs of the dramatization, ensuring a quality and impactful presentation. This initiative also provides opportunities for local artists and youth to participate in faith-based performances.
With this support, Mayor Lazatin continues to promote unity, culture, and faith in Angeles City by empowering community-led initiatives that strengthen local traditions and values.
